Abstract

I shall introduce the integrable pairing Hamiltonian. We want to analyze the dynamical chaos appearing in the mean-field dynamics in the nonadiabatic regime of this Hamiltonian. Briefly recalling the arguments (Kurland, Aleiner, and Altshuler, PRB) about how this Hamiltonian can appear in a strongly interacting isolated metallic grain, I shall explain the integrability of this model. Making a comparison with our earlier study of dynamical chaos in the integrable Toda chain (Danieli, Yuzbashyan, Altshuler, Patra, and Flach, Chaos), I shall establish the important time scales of the mean-field BCS dynamics. I shall also briefly explain why this model might be more convenient than the integrable Toda chain for analyzing dynamical chaos. I shall show how the maximum Lyapunov exponent behaves as we change the step size in our numerical (symplectic) integrator. I shall also show how the relative energy error and the relative error in the different integrals of motion behave as we change the step size.
