Grothendieck's Residue Symbol and its application

Abstract

Grothendieck defined a homomorphism called the Residue Symbol and listed some of its basic properties. In this seminar, we follow Hopkins and Lipman to give an explicit construction of the Residue Symbol using only basic commutative and homological algebra. We then use this symbol to give a perfect pairing of complex vector spaces and study the map.
