Abstract

Rayji de Guia centers the various experiences of Filipino women in her writing, drawing from her life and those around her, and she challenges the limiting notions of womanhood by manifesting on the page "unlady-like" women. She will read selected poems and fiction excerpts for this event.

Bio:
Rayji de Guia is a fictionist, poet, and illustrator. Her work can be found in Asian Cha, The Deadlands, harana poetry, Journal of English Studies and Comparative Literature, The Pinch, and elsewhere. She has received prizes from the Gémino H. Abad Awards for Poetry and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. She is a writer-in-residence at Chennai Mathematical Institute, where she is writing her first book of short stories, Provincia y Dolorosa. Currently, she is an instructor at the University of the Philippines – Diliman
