Abstract

Hugo Duminil-Copin was awarded the Fields Medal in 2022 for his fundamental contributions to the mathematical theory of phase transitions. In this talk, I shall describe some of his groundbreaking works in this area, specifically in relation to percolation and the Ising model and try to share the excitement with the wider mathematics community. This talk will be aimed at the non-experts and no advanced knowledge of probability theory will be assumed.
