Mathematical Challenges in Industrial Production at Trumpf Metamation
Trumpf is the one of the world's largest manufacturers of machine tools, with a focus on tools for cutting and bending sheet metal. This talk will give an overivew of sheet metal machines and discuss different optimization problems that arise in industrial production: for example, cutting parts from a sheet (lastercutting), generating a bend sequence to achieve a desired geometric shape (bending), internal logistics in production, and control of robots and cartesian machines. The talk will discuss opportunities for interaction between CMI and Trumpf and announce a challenge contest for students.
