Abstract

This is the first of three lectures that will discuss aspects of two-dimensional conformal field theories. We will start slow, by introducing the Virasoro algebra and studying its representation theory. After discussing the operator product expansion and its associativity, we will then introduce the central object of our study: the Virasoro conformal blocks.
