Abstract

Gravitational waves were detected for the first time in the middle of 2015. A number of detections have been made since then. In this talk I will introduce these waves, discuss their importance, explain the method of their detection and the limits technology had to be pushed to, for making the detections possible. I will discuss the properties of the sources detected so far and the new knowledge this has given us. Finally, I will describe the upcoming gravitational wave observatory in India.
