CMI Arts Initiative Lecture

Mindy Gill is one of the two writers in residence at CMI for 2019. Jeet Thayil is also visiting CMI during the second half of February. They will talk about their work this week, at CMI.

About the talk:

Mindy and Jeet will talk about their experience as writers, and about writing both poetry and fiction. Mindy will read from her poems, and Jeet from his most recent novel, "The Book of Chocolate Saints".

About the speakers:

Mindy Gill is a writer and editor living in Brisbane, Australia. She has been awarded the Queensland Premier's Young Writers and Publishers Award, a Wheeler Centre Fellowship, and in 2019 will be RMIT's Visiting Poetry Fellow, in Melbourne. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the online journal, Peril Magazine, a publication dedicated to Asian-Australian writing, arts and culture.

Jeet Thayil is a poet, novelist and musician. He worked as a journalist for twenty-three years before writing his first novel, "Narcopolis". His poetry collections include "Collected Poems" and "These Errors Are Correct", which won the 2013 Sahitya Akademi Award. He is the editor of "The Bloodaxe Book of Contemporary Indian Poets". "Narcopolis" was awarded the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature and was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize. "The Book of Chocolate Saints" was published in 2018.
