CMI Arts Initiative Lecture

Francesca Marciano is one of the two writers in residence at CMI for 2019. She will talk about her work this week, at CMI.

About the talk:

I will talk about my experience as a writer, both in fiction and in film, and also what it means to write in a second language. I will read an extract from my latest book "The Other language".

About the speaker:

Francesca Marciano was born in Rome and has lived in New York and in Kenya for several years. She has written numerous film scripts for Italian cinema, receiving a Donatello award, and a nomination for best foreign film for "Don't tell" in 2006. She is the author of three novels published with Pantheon, Random House. "Rules of the Wild" (1998) is set in Kenya and appeared in the New York Time’s list of the notable books of the year. "Casa Rossa" (2002) set in southern Italy, won the Rapallo Carige Award for women writers. "The End of Manners" (2008), a story of friendship, human frailty, and war is set in Afghanistan. Her latest book, a collection of short stories "The Other Language", was shortlisted for the Story prize in New York. She now lives in Rome and is currently working on a new book due for publication in 2019.
