Though it focuses on the Tanjavur tradition of making and the family of Dalit Christians who worked with upper-caste mridangam players to innovate and refine this magnificent instrument, the book will also look at various other communities and people spread across South India who are master-makers. The book also studies the entire process of mrdangam making and the various aspects that go into its sonic uniqueness. This is a socio-aesthetic story.
