Abstract

Dr. Ashwin Ravikumar works at the intersection of environmental conservation and human well-being in the Peruvian Amazon. In this talk, he will discuss the importance of the Amazon rainforest for the global climate and also for the many people who depend on it directly for their livelihoods. This talk will link issues of international concern to the everyday issues that indigenous people face, including government policies that lead to deforestation, insecure land tenure, and the availability of natural resources. Ultimately, we will unpack why the Amazon matters for all of us, and what we can do to protect its unique biodiversity.
