2:00 pm, Seminar Hall Reading from her work Karen Jennings Writer. 14-02-14 Abstract Karen Jennings was born in Cape Town in 1982. She holds Masters degrees in both English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town. Her debut novel, Finding Soutbek was published in 2012 by Holland Park Press and made the 2014 shortlist of the inaugural Etisalat Prize for a debut novel (the winner will be announced on February 23rd in Lagos). In 2010 her short story 'From Dark' won the Commonwealth Short Story Competition for the African region. In 2009 'Mia and the Shark' won the English section of the MML short story competition and is now studied in schools. Karen's stories have been published nationally and internationally, from Greece to Australia. Her short story collection Away from the Dead will be published by Holland Park Press in 2014. She is currently working on a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, which she hopes to complete in 2014. Karen is currently in residency at CMI and will be here till the end of February. She is a recipient of the CMI Arts Initiative residency fellowship, which was launched by CMI in association with Sangam House, Bangalore. Karen will be reading from her work at CMI.
