Abstract

Motivated by Lusztig's conjecture on the irreducible rational characters of algebraic groups we show how sheaf theory on algebraic geometry is linked to representation theory in positive characteristics. In particular, we show how the degrees of stalks of parity sheaves yield Jordan-Hölder multiplicities for modular Lie algebras. This result uses the localization technique of Goresky, Kottwitz and MacPherson.
