Abstract

Professor Y. Bilu is visiting CMI-IMSc and shall be giving a series of lectures on counting rational point on varieties.

The first two lectures are at CMI on 13th and 18th from 3.30-5 p.m.

I will start from the classical work of Bombieri and Pila (1989) on counting lattice points on curves, and continue with more recent results, including the application of Pila's methods to classical problems of Diophantine analysis (Manin-Mumford, Andre-Ooort).

The lectures would not require any special knowledge. All the definitions will be given in the course.
