Parimala Emory University, U.S.A. 08-08-12 Abstract In this talk, we shall explain the connection between bounding indices of division algebras in terms of their exponents and the u-invariant of fields. Such bounds for division algebras over function fields of curves over number fields are possible modulo a conjecture of Colliot Thelene on the Hasse principle for the existence of zero cycles of degree one on smooth projective varieties over number fields.
