Abstract

(Dr. Krishnaswamy will be here for a discussion at the end of the screening.)

A DIFFERENT PILGRIMAGE - (109 minutes) feature length Documentary premiered at the India Pavilion of the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2010.

Ancient India had a profound impact on the rest of Asia. Hinduism and Buddhism as well as Indian concepts of architecture, aesthetics and mythology spread all over Asia. Except for the pioneering work of a few historians, India has not paid adequate attention to exploring this glorious relationship between India and the rest of Asia. Dr. S. Krishnaswamy and Dr. Mohana Krishnaswamy, conceived A DIFFERENT PILGRIMAGE on this aspect of Indian history and have made this Documentary Feature covering Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam --- produced under their banner Krishnaswamy Associates, Chennai, India.

Hundreds of monuments reflecting ancient Indian impact are presented, including 1000 year old Hindu temples still in worship. Combining a gripping journalistic style with authenticity, interspersed with the region's dance forms and brief interviews, the documentary is not ony an eye-opener on an important aspect of India's heritage but also truly a visual treat.

Written and Directed by Dr. S. Krishnaswamy -- a recipient of Padmashree, besides several national and international awards for his documentaries and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the US International Film and Video Festival -- whose "Indus Valley to Indira Gandhi" created headlines 3 decades ago; produced by award winning scientist and short film maker Dr. Mohana Krishnaswamy and photographed by the celebrated Cinematographer Madhu Ambat, "A Different Pilgrimate" was first screened at the India Pavilion during the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2010.
