Abstract

Neutrinos are elementary particles which fill up the Universe in great abundance,but are very elusive. Trillions of neutrinos are passing through our body every second without affecting us. One of the most important discoveries of the last decade is that neutrinos have mass. Until this discovery it was thought that neutrinos are massless particles like photons, the particles of light. This discovery is expected to have important repercussions in high energy physics and cosmology and opens new vistas. Much work is yet to be done. India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project is designed to capture this excitement for our young scientists and students. This colloquium talk will deal with all of these developments.
