Abstract

We discuss triangulability of compact 2-manifolds and their classification. The oriented ones can be given the structure of a Riemann surface. We discuss knots and links. For a singular point of a complex plane curve C, the intersection of C with a small sphere S_3 around the singularity results in a link. We also discuss the case of an isolated hypersurface singularity and the associated Milnor fibration.
