Analyticity properties of scattering amplitude in a theory with a compact spatial coordinate

Abstract

I shall discuss analyticity properties of scattering amplitude for a 4-dimensional field theory with one compact dimension. Several years ago N. N. Khuri showed that in nonrelativistic potential scattering with one compact coordinate, the forward scattering amplitude violates analyticity. If it is true for a relativistic QFT it will be a total disaster. Experimentally established results will be challenged since those bounds are derived from causality, unitarity and crossing which are proved from axioms of local field theories.
