Drawing insights from George Yule’s work, the session will unravel how words, phrases, and sentences convey meaning, touching on key concepts like sense, reference, and pragmatics.The speaker will also explore the phenomena of Lexical relations by analysing features like Synonymy, Hyponymy, Metonymy, etc. Through engaging examples, the speaker will elucidate how meaning is shaped by context and interpretation thus tracing the intricate relationship between language and thought in our daily communication. About the speaker: Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran is currently Assistant Professor and Head, Department English, at S.A. College of Arts and Science, Chennai. A passionate researcher, he is working on postcolonial power dynamics in Chinua Achebe’s novels. His areas of expertise include British and postcolonial literature, African literature, and English language teaching through literature. An active member of ELTAI (English Language Teachers Association of India), Mr. Kumaran has been a resource person at various national and international workshops, contributing significantly to teacher training and competitive exam coaching.
