Abstract

The 2020 Nobel prize for physics recognized two discoveries: (i) the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy and (ii) the robustness of black hole space-times in general relativity. I will sketch how the discoveries were made and their interplay with more emphasis on the theoretical development.
