Mathematics Seminar Date: Thursday, 8 August 2024 Time: 2.00 PM Venue: Seminar Hall Finite Sets, Infinite Sets, and the Rest of Us: A Sampler of the Joys of Choiceless Mathematics Dianthe Basak Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie. 08-08-24 Abstract Choiceless mathematics is a currently burgeoning area of set theory, and promises to open up hitherto unexpected dialogues with areas of mainstream mathematics. This talk, designed specifically for a CMI undergraduate audience, will take the attendees on a tour of the "smaller" violations of the axiom of choice, and attempt to draw parallels and connections with topics of interest to non-logicians.
