Abstract

This series of lectures will discuss certain interesting Geometric constructions and aspects which come up a lot in algebraic geometry.

We plan to begin with the definition of Projective space, Grassmaninans and flag varieties. We will discuss projections in projective spaces and relate these to blow ups. Then we will prove Noether normalization, Bertini's Theorem and the existence of Lefschetz Pencils. We will also address the problem of Bertini type theorems in positive characteristic. In the last few lectures, we will describe the relation between Frobenius splittings, blow ups and multiplicity.
