Annual Seminar for Mathematics Research Scholars Date: Thursday, 05 October 2023 Time: 2:00 PM Venue: Lecture Hall 801 An Uncertainty Principle for Cyclic groups of prime order Preeti Chennai Mathematical Institute. 05-10-23 Abstract For a function $f$ defined on a finite abelian group $G$, the classical Uncertainty principle states the product of the cardinalities of support of $f$ and support of its Fourier transform cannot be small. In this talk we will discuss a result of Terence Tao which states that when $G$ is cyclic group of prime order, this classical version of Uncertainty principle can be considerably improved and such an improvement is optimal. Consequently we will see a short proof of the well known Cauchy-Davenport inequality.
