Abstract

Intense heavy ion beams are produced in accelerators and delivered to targets with significant impacts with applications covering a range of physics in terms of material science, nuclear physics, atomic physics, radiation biology, etc. At IUAC, accelerators, Low Energy Ion Beam Facility, Pelletron, and LINAC, are running almost 24 hours continuously to serve the user community. In this lecture the basic concepts behind the functioning of accelerators will be discussed with examples of accelerators at IUAC. The uses of accelerators in different fields for various applications will also discussed.
