Abstract

This talk attempts to explain, to a predominantly student audience, the surprising unity in the apparent diversity of Nature's laws. While three of Nature's four forces are described by Yang-Mills theories, the fourth force, gravity, is described by the Einstein-Hilbert theory. Recent developments suggest far closer ties between these theories than previously suspected.
