Abstract

The classical dynamics of spinning relativistic systems arise in many branches of physics: particle accelerators, synchrotron radiation sources in astrophysics, solitons, baryons, dense neutron stars and models of elementary particles. A. O. Barut proposed an elegant model for such a system. (The corresponding quantum systems are the Dirac equation or the Bhabha-Harish-Chandra wave equation.) We will describe the classical motion of charged relativistic spinning particles in a magnetic field, generalizing Euler's theory of the top. We also propose an equation of motion for such particles including the effect of radiation reaction.
