Abstract

Black holes are interesting and mysterious objects in Einstein Gravity. They have many properties that appear, at first sight, quite unfamiliar to the physicist used to studying quantum field theory. However, according to the AdS-CFT correspondence of string theory, a particular theory of gravity is identical to a `garden variety' quantum field theory. It follows that the quantum field theory in question must display all the phenomena associated with black holes of the dual gravity theory. In this talk we will explain how this works in some examples.
