Abstract

Young tableaux are combinatorial objects introduced by A. Young in relation with the theory of representations of the symmetric group. They are deeply related to the theory of symmetric functions.

In this talk, I will present the more visible and spectacular aspects of the related combinatorial and algebraic correspondences: the classical Robinson-Schensted algorithm between permutations and pairs of Young tableaux, Viennot's geometric interpretation, Lascoux-Schutzenberger ``jeu de taquin'' and plactic monoid, Schur functions and more...
