Abstract

The isomorphy classes of flat $G$-bundles ($G$ compact connected Lie groups) on an $n$-dimensional torus are classified by $n$-tuples of commuting elements in $G$, up to conjugacy. I shall discuss joint work with R. Friedman and J. Morgan on the cases $n=2,3,$ motivated by conjectures of E. Witten.
