ALGEBRA1, FALL 2011

Text book: "Algebra" by Michael Artin; first four chapters.

Grading: The grade for the class will be decided on the basis of a final exam, one midterm exam and regular assigmnets/quiz (about 40%,30% and 30% respectively). Assignments will be assigned frequently (below) and are to be submitted by the due date. In addition, I will give periodic quizzes in class. There will be no make-ups for the in-class quizzes and late homework will not be accepted.

Assignment 1 Due: Wednesday, 24 August
Assignment 2 Due: Wednesday, 7 Sep
Assignment 3 Due: Thursday, 15 Sep
Assignment 4 Due: Monday, 26 Sep

Academic Honesty: Academic honesty is essential to a successful education. I will expect all your work to be independent. Some discussion is permitted for homework but final solutions need to be your own. Any violations will be dealt with in a strict manner in accordance with CMI policies.
