Comparisons are odious, it is said. It is indeed impossible to find a parallel or an exact match for any individual. The problem becomes compounded in the case of a versatile genius like Dr Gift Siromoney. He blended many disciplines of expertise in his unique personality in a seamless manner. Different aspects of him will remind us of different persons. One remarkable aspect is his genius for inspiring friends, colleagues and students into doing something that none of them could have done on his/her own. It is reflected in the long list of people associated with him in writing articles and research papers. This aspect of him will remind us of Paul Erdös, one of the greatest mathematicians of the twentieth century. He was associated with 300 co-authors, much more than any other mathematician ever collaborated with. While he restricted himself to Number Theory, Dr Siromoney's interests were many-sided. Incidentally, in a different context, Erdös was known as a "Professor of the Universe", a sobriquet that would fit Dr Siromoney equally well. He was interested in everything on the earth as well as beyond and he motivated and influenced people around him to take note of the universe around them. Some of those influenced by him recollect here their association with him.
