Riemann Roch theorem for nonsingular curves

Abstract

In this seminar we will talk about some basic tools in algebraic curve theory following the book "Algebraic Curves" by William Fulton. We will start by recalling the notions of projective varieties, projective curves and introduce some algebraic objects associated with them. In particular, we will define nonsingular curves and introduce divisors on curves. We will then state the Riemann-Roch theorem for divisors on nonsingular curves and give a sketch of the proof, using some required results as black boxes. We will also illustrate the theorem in an example.
