Title Recent progress in birational geometry (Video Recording, Slides)

Abstract

Birational geometry is the subject of classification of algebraic varieties via birational techniques. In this talk we discuss some of the advances in recent years especially around topics such as boundedness, moduli, and generalised spaces.

About the speaker

Caucher Birkar photo Caucher Birkar is a mathematician working in algebraic geometry with a particular focus on the birational geometry of algebraic varieties. His work involves various topics such as minimal model program, Fano and Calabi-Yau varieties, singularities, generalised spaces, moduli spaces, etc.

He has worked at Cambridge University for many years. He is currently a professor at the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center at Tsinghua University, Beijing. He received the Fields Medal at ICM 2018 in Rio de Janeiro for his work in Birational Geometry.
