The Wonders of Conformal Field Theory
In this talk, I will survey a variety of situations in physics where conformal invariant quantum field theory plays a key role. These include: phase transitions and critical exponents in statistical systems, the world-sheet dynamics of strings, the AdS/CFT correspondence and entanglement entropy. The talk will make use of relatively simple Lie algebras and space-time metrics and focus largely on the physical/mathematical implications of symmetries.
