MSc Programme

CMI offers three four-semester courses leading to MSc degrees.

The MSc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science were initiated in 2001. In both programmes, the curriculum takes students into more advanced topics in the subject. The course structure is flexible and designed so that students can lay a firm foundation for pursuing further research while also acquiring advanced skills that will enhance their effectiveness in professional careers.

The MSc programme in Data Science is a new stream starting in 2018, aimed at providing a sound foundation in mathematics, statistics and computing for a professional career in predictive data analysis.

Admission procedure

Admission to the MSc programmes is through a test that is administered at centres across the country in the middle of May. Admission forms are normally distributed in early March: look for advertisements and announcements on the Admissions webpage.

In the initial years, the degrees were awarded by the Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University (MPBOU), Bhopal. In December 2006, CMI was recognized as a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. CMI now awards MSc degrees directly.

Hostel

The MSc Mathematics and Computer Science programmes are fully residential. All students are accommodated in the hostel on campus. Hostel accommodation is not guaranteed for the MSc Data Science programme. The Institute has a regular transportation arrangement for students to visit the city for shopping and other activities.

Fees and scholarships

For MSc Mathematics and Computer Science, the tuition fee is Rs 1,25,000/- per semester (two semesters in a year). For MSc Data Science, the tuition fee is Rs 2,50,000/- per semester (two semesters in a year).

For MSc Mathematics and Computer Science, a substantial number of scholarships will be available, consisting of a full waiver of the tuition fees. The number of scholarships will be roughly equal to the number of students admitted in recent batches of each of these MSc programmes. In addition, a limited number of fellowships will be available, with a monthly allowance of Rs. 6,000. The eligibility of a student to receive scholarships and fellowships will be reviewed every semester and will depend on satisfactory academic performance.

CMI is committed to a policy of financial inclusion and strives to ensure that no student is denied an opportunity to study at CMI due to economic circumstances. Towards this goal, partial and total tuition fee waivers will also be available, based on the financial background of the student.

Students who stay in the hostel pay hostel and mess fees at the at the beginning of each semester.
