General
CMI has a well stocked library and is open twentyfour hours. The library has multiple copies of most of the textbooks. The library is updated twice a day on all working days at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.
The ground floor houses books on Computer Science, Logic, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, and Mathematical Typesetting on the steel shelves, and LNM, EMS, LNP and Collected Works on the shelves alongside the window. Books for reference are placed in the reference section. The library also subscribes to newspapers and magazines. The first floor has books on general reading, fiction, LNCS, Proceedings, theses & reports and bound volumes of journals. Books with the letter `R' on the spine are meant for reference only and cannot be borrowed. Library books are not meant to be taken outside without issuing them. Books are not to be left in the lab/lounge etc. Students must return all the books issued against their name before going on vacation. Defaulters will be fined according to the rules. Borrowing BooksBooks can only be issued on working days, between 9 am and 5 pm. The issue card drop box is kept with the security guard posted outside the library. All students (and members of the institute) are expected to fill in the issue card at the security desk and show their CMI id card (the guard will ensure that their names are being filled in). All members exiting the library with books will be expected to follow the above procedure. Once taken out, a book can be brought back only to be returned. If a user wishes to read an issued book in the library, it has to be kept in the library as soon as it is issued, till it is returned. Users can leave the issued books neatly on a table with a note saying that the book(s) should not be disturbed. In short, library books can be taken out only when they are issued, and once an issued book is taken in, it cannot be taken out unless it is returned and reissued. However, users are free to take their personal books and notebooks in and out. Security guard will verify that they are not library books. Returning BooksTo return books please place them in the ``Returned Books" tray. Please do not re-shelve or leave the issued books anywhere else.
