hour. After the meeting Professor R Sridharan gave a
lecture on Reflections on some mathematicians in British
India.
The following items were discussed at the General Body
Meeting:
There was a discussion on how to utilize the alumni
association funds. On a related note many alumni expressed a wish
to fund current student activities. It was decided that a wish
list should be prepared in consultation with current students and
this can be shared with alumni.
Regarding job opportunities for CMI graduates, it was
agreed that there should be a mailing list to which interested
current students can subscribe. Potential employers, alumni can
use this mailing list to contact current students directly.
A CMI Alumni Association Newsletter will be published
periodically and work on the first edition will start right
away. It was suggested that these newsletters should include
articles by alumni/faculty, CMI news, information about students
etc.
A mailing list of all the members of the alumni
association should be created for better communication within the
association. In addition the current students of CMI could get in
touch with the alumni association using this mailing list.
There was discussion about ways to increase awareness
about CMI. One proposal was for CMI faculty and alumni to visit
various places and give presentations about life in CMI,
prospects after CMI and other related matters.
With regard to some of the above points it was suggested that CMI
website be redesigned to have a more "contemporary" look.
